Meat Overdose!

Ah Boi says:

Been such a long time since I last blogged here..Been superbly busy with school this semester.
And finally, the holidays are here!
Pretty excited to see my grades..even though I know I'll drop grades and lose my book prizes and Dean's List status.

Dearie's birthday is coming up, so about a month ago I started planning a celebration for her. Turns out that I have to work on her birthday itself, so I brought her out today.

2 weeks ago, I started researching on places to go to for dinner. Dearie was rather keen on going to a Brazilian Churrascaria (Brazilian Steakhouse), so it set my gears turning. Went online, asked for reviews on the various churrascarias available in Singapore. Finally decided on going to Samba Brazilian Churrascaria for dinner.

Hehz..events of the day would probably bore you guys to death, so I'll cut straight to the point.
So I lied to Dearie about not having enough moolah for dinner at Samba and that we would be going to a seafood restaurant at ECP for "horfun" instead. I tell you, the disappointment on her face, you can never miss. So took a cab (because I overslept in the afternoon) and went down to Roxy Square. Our reservation was at 7pm and it was still early when we got there, so I made her walk with me all the way to Parkway Parade before lying about an errand I had to run for my brother. So walked back all the way to Roxy..and into Samba. She was totally speechless..LOL!

Entrance to Samba

The service at Samba is really good. Waiters/waitresses were quick to attend to customers, top up drinks and clear our unwanted plates. Ordered a Lime Caipirinha (Brazil's national cocktail) for Dearie and I had a Sol beer [which tasted like my favourite Corona beer..not surprising since both are products of Mexico (Read: MEX-HEE-KO!)].

Before the feast, we were treated to an array of starters at the salad bar. It wasn't like HUGE or anything, but just enough to whet our appetites for what's to come. Tried the chicken lasagna, potato salad, mashed potato and 2 mini lobsters. We didn't want to fill ourselves up or we would get too stuffed to enjoy all the 15 cuts of meat and seafood.

Shortly after, the Passadores (chefs) came carrying huge skewers of delectable grilled meat. We had Pork Sausages, Honey Baked Ham, Char Siew, Beef Topside with Garlic, Chicken Drumstick, Dory fish, Shrimp, Leg of Lamb, Pork Ribs, and one of the Beef "steak" (don't know what it was..whack only, lah).

The meat was pretty alright. It was decent, but not fantastic. Lightly marinated with garlic and salt, my guess is that Samba wants to deliver the food with it's natural taste to its customers. Sadly, my mom probably makes better Char Siew and the Chicken Drumstick we didn't fancy. The drumstick was a tad too "kayu" (wood) for us. Beef wise, Dearie didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. I guess the meat was too gamey for her taste.

For dessert (or rather an interval for me), we had grilled pineapple with cinnamon and a banana Flanblado (bananas cooked in orange juice and ice cream, I guess). We loved it..the pineapple and bananas really washed out all the fatty and meaty taste in our gullets, something an extra bottle of OVERPRICED Evian failed to do.

Banana Flanblado
As we were about to leave, my much awaited dish appeared..ROASTED CHICKEN HEARTS!
Damn, I waited 2 darn hours for it to make an appearance, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna leave without tasting it. Dearie cringed at the sight of it..hahaha..

Roasted Chicken Hearts

All in all, it was a good dinner and we left with smiles on our faces. It was worth it, watching Dearie smile all the way home, even if we only had 11 out of the promised 13-15 meat/seafood cuts.

Sorry for the lack of pictures, guys. I forgot to bring out my camera, so we were reduced to using our lousy 2mp handphone cameras..and I realised that many of the pictures we took were either underexposed or out of focus.

I would like to thank Val for listening to my rants and raves for the past month or so about the dinner...as well as giving me advice on the matter. We would probably really have gone for that "horfun" if you didn't tell me to hang on..LOL!

Cheers everyone!
